History
Tonga Rugby Union
The Tonga Rugby Union was formed in 1921 as the then Rugby Committee of Tonga to
begin the first rugby competition in Tonga. The committee was lead by the late Tungi Mailefihi.
Four teams competed in the inaugural competition, Mu'a, Kolomotu'a, Nukunuku and Hihifo.
In 1923 the Komiti 'Akapulu 'a Tonga was officially registered in the Government and in 1924 the first ever International rugby test match was held between Tonga and Fiji at Teufaiva Park.
